NOTE: You are not going to read or find this anywhere else, because God dropped this into my head at 4:45am in the morning while I was just trying to go back to sleep. I asked God the day before, give me something really helpful for people who have been told a watered-down truth about salvation. At 4:45 AM I wasn’t talking to God, I was trying to go back to sleep, so I knew He was answering my prayer. At first, I was like I will type it up later, but it just kept developing. So, I got out of bed and started typing, and realized God gave me something that is going to help so many people if not today, but years down the road.
Believing in Jesus’s existence and you will just be forgiven for all your sins, being water baptized, and salvation prayers are no guarantee of receiving the Holy Spirit. I know, I grew up thinking the first two things, then I learned about the salvation prayer later on, and I thought well that’s the truth, and now I know none of it is the truth.
Salvation prayers that pastors and priests are often Problematic!
Besides the fact that most pastors/priests are not explaining the true gospel OR what it really means to repent. Many churches (referring to the church structures) and religions are not explaining repentance correctly, or how the Holy Spirit works, or the commitment. You don’t just say a prayer, and then the pastor/priest tells you how to change your life. No!
These prayers are not bad to pray, as they can be the first step to opening your heart to accept Jesus as your savior. The problem lies in them being the only step.
When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you won’t need a pastor or priest to tell you how to stop sinning, as you become part of the new covenant. A good church community helps to strengthen your faith and help you walk in it though. The Holy Spirit (Christ in You) guides you to obey, remove sin in your life, the Holy Spirit changes your heart and mind (Hebrews 10:16). BUT over time you will change in ways you didn’t know were possible – and you will feel what is means to be born again. You take on some of Jesus character traits without even trying (Galatians 5:22–24). You will change because of the Holy Spirit within you has changed your heart and mind.
Yes, you make changes, but because you feel this desire deep within you. God will guide you.
God gave me this Recipe for Repentance. You need: Faith, Understanding, Commitment, and a True Act of Repentance. This recipe can be easy, if your heart is ready.
INGREDIENTS:
1. Faith
Your level of faith is between you and God. How much scripture do you need? I can’t say, it is different for everyone. You have to BELIEVE all on your own, get into scripture, pray, learn. You obviously have to believe in God, and believe in Jesus that he was crucified for your sins, was resurrected, sent the Holy Spirit. It helps to understand how sin entered the world (Genesis). Know he didn’t die so that you could just keep sinning regularly and asking for forgiveness. He took the punishment for our sins, and we are given the Holy Spirit, so we have a way to stop living as sinners and be SAVED.
Yes you can still mess up and sin with the Holy Spirit, it should no longer be natural, easy, desirable. It’s not part of your lifestyle, not habitual. You repent when you mess up, and move forward not living in the shame.
Believe you can receive POWER (View Acts 1:8, Romans 15:13, Ephesians 3:16, 2 Timothy 1:7) from God with the gift of the Holy Spirit (that’s where many church buildings and religions mess up). If you have read my testimonies, you may have seen that I sometimes talk about God fixing a weakness in me that I did 100% no work on – God’s grace, He gets the glory. The power to keep the evil one out of my head (he gets in my head less as I grow spiritually) it is entirely a gift from the Holy Spirit. Doors in my mind that gave sin access closed.
Some scriptures:
(Obey: Matthew 7:21, John 14:15, Hebrews 5:9, 1 John 2:3–4)
(End to Sinning: Romans 6:1–2. Romans 6:6, 1 Corinthians 6:9–10, Galatians 5:19–21, 1 Peter 1:14–16, 1 John 3:6–9)
(Holy Spirit: Ezekiel 36:26–27, Romans 8:4, Romans 8:13–14, Galatians 5:16)
2. Understanding
You have to understand the commitment you are making. You have to understand you are giving up ALL sin (sinful thoughts and sinful actions) and committing to live a new life in Jesus Christ (View 2 Corinthians 5:17). You have to understand God is going to work with you on your sin, He expects you to give it ALL up. AGAIN, there is POWER with the HOLY SPIRIT to help you. Grace isn’t just forgiveness.
Know that God is going to change your heart and your mind, and you will be dying to all the flesh desires in this world (View Galatians 5:24–25). You will live differently. Instead of worrying about who the world wants you to be, worrying about what other people think of you, you will start wanting to please God more than anything (this is not living in fear – God wants you to have peace). You have to understand this is the way to Heaven. You are SAVED when you have the Holy Spirit. (View Ephesians 1:13-14).
I’m not going to go deep down that road, you can lose the holy spirit, but you really have to turn your back on God. IF you are like most saved people and want to please God, repent, and continue to turn away from a sinful life, you won’t need to live in fear of it. You do not need to live in fear! Scripture over and over again in the New Testament says not to live in fear.
One must be born again.
John 3:3 “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
3. Commitment
God knows what’s in your heart and your mind, whether you are truly committed. I would say you should have some understanding of the sins listed in the bible. Like if you go look at a list of sins, and you see oh yes, I have been doing some of these, you know where to start with repenting. You can start cutting out sins even before you repent, if it helps you with commitment. But God invites you to come as you are. You can repent right now.
You can’t remove all the sins on your own, the Holy Spirit gives you the power. This is just about being committed in your heart (which is you truly have the desire to turn from sin and live a new born again life).
4. Act of Repenting
True repentance is surrendering your life to God, Taking responsibility for the fact that you are a sinner! Yes, I know we never had the choice not to sin, we start sinning as kids before we understand sin. But because of what Jesus did on the cross (taking the punishment for our sins), going through the most painful death imaginable and living the most painful life as a human, at the mercy of this own creation – Is it really too much to ask to take responsibility for the fact that we are sinners? There is no such thing as a good sin. Your sin doesn’t benefit you. We get this awesome gift to spend eternity in Heaven, and of course all the blessings that come when you repent and are saved!! It’s really incredible. God will always provide you and give you a way out of any situation to not take the route of sinning (View: 1 Corinthians 10:13). So, choose to hate sinning because God hates sinning.
Don’t let pride stop you from accepting this gift, as many will let pride get in the way.
Act of Repenting
We are supposed to take responsibility for ALL our sins! It was dropped into my head at some point that it will benefit you more if you repent for more. I kept asking God, “what I should repent for?” I asked, and asked until nothing else came to mind. I made no excuses for any of my sins. “I felt the shame, said I was sorry, and said forgive me, I don’t want to commit this sin again”
Then in faith, ask, and believe you will receive the Holy Spirit.
That’s it, that’s the recipe! You need these ingredients, but measurements are between you and God.
Let Go of Shame
No shame after you repent for a sin, once you felt the weight of the sin, sincerely asked for forgiveness you are done with that sin. It is gone, erased, don’t hold on. UNLESS, God tells you that you need to go make amends with a person, or something like that. So, if you feel unsure… pray “Father I ask in Jesus name…
NOTE: Praying to God as a father is a foundational practice in Christianity, taught by Jesus and supported by scripture. Addressing God as “Father” signifies a relationship of trust and dependence, and prayer to the Father is understood to be done in Jesus’ name, through the power of the Holy Spirit.
YOU THINK YOU ARE NOT READY… Read Scripture. Read the Gospel. Pray.
Do you want to chat?
- I have lots of helpful advice for people after they repent, just ask, if you are interested.
- If you are feeling lost, and you want to chat, reach out. I know God has given me gifts and experiences to help, and He is working through me. I had a lot of fear, questions, and confusion at first, but through spiritual growth, through finding helpful videos, helpful scripture, I’m in a peaceful place. I can help with some things. God placed people in my life who knew the truth (had the holy spirit) about two years ago. It was very helpful! These were not close relationships, so we didn’t know they had the Holy Spirit, it became evident after we had the Holy Spirit. God’s timing, so amazing!
