If you read my history of modern medicine blog, you know our medical system is largely based on profits. And if you haven’t read it, I suggest doing so. However, I can tell you just the fact that our medical system isn’t focused at all on preventative health is one sure sign we have a profit-based medical system. With that being said, let’s discuss a cure vs treatment.

An image of a chest full of money to represent how medicine is all about profits.According to Merriam Webster, a cure is defined as a complete or permanent solution or remedy, or something (such as a drug or treatment) that cures a disease. Treatment can mean a ton of things, but this is the most simple definition: medical treatment is the management and care of a patient to combat disease or disorder. Treatments can be natural and help a person recover, can do little to nothing, can be medicine that covers up an ailment, can make things worse, or could help a person fully recover.

Now we are ready to dive down deep into the concept of cures.

The Problems with Cures

Problem 1: The Financial Incentive**

This is a hard pill to swallow, but the likelihood of there being a cure someday for any cancer or any other autoimmune disease is not a realistic concept because there is no financial incentive to cure anything.

The drug industry makes money off of people being sick. If there were cures that would mean less money in their pockets. The drug industry is always after you whether or not you are sick with something or perfectly healthy. They want to make you reliant on them. Chemotherapy brings in money. Because of all the damage, it can do to the body, there is the chance you will end up with another health issue later on if it doesn’t actually kill you.

Problems with Chemotherapy

An image of chemotherapy medicine to talk about the problems with relying on chemotherapy as a cure..Remember how I mentioned viewing your body as a home in my short-term vs long-term blog? Chemotherapy is like sticking some dangerous poisons in the walls of your house to kill the mold in your walls. The poison might (not even guaranteed) kill the mold in the walls, but it will stick around and wreak a whole lot more havoc. Let’s say the poison eats away at the walls of the house, over time you are going to have all sorts of problems. Chemotherapy destroys cancer cells to stop them from dividing to create more cells. The drugs can’t always distinguish between healthy cells and cancer cells, so many of the healthy cells get destroyed in the process, as well. Cells are what you are made of!

Some good news is many people nowadays have been turning to natural remedies during and after cancer to help their bodies improve – which is great! I do know we can’t judge all chemotherapy the same way. I know some chemotherapy isn’t as intense as others. Some are not as dangerous: success rates for various cancers. I know they don’t all have the same side effects.

Disclaimer: Not telling you what to do to improve your health condition. I’m not a practitioner, talk to your doctor and make your own decision. If you want to do chemotherapy that’s your choice. Just sharing information because knowledge is power.

Recovering from the Incurable

There are many people who have recovered from cancer and other autoimmune diseases that have even been called incurable. Many people have recovered using alternative treatments, in fact before modern medicine natural medicine was used for all types of illnesses. There are many functional medicine doctors that have systems and tests to find root causes for illnesses. Of course, just like chemotherapy, there are no guarantees. But that’s because you are more in charge of your health than the practitioner! You may have to alter your diet, take supplements, and make lifestyle changes. In my opinion that is a good thing – we should take control of our health and we will be better off for it.

The positive side of natural treatments are little to no side effects, shouldn’t cause other health issues, and a healthier body all-around.

Problem 2: The Creation of the Cancer Organizations

An image of a pink ribbon to talk about cancer and the purpose of them..Another flaw in the concept of relying on a cure is… a member of the Rockefeller family is actually responsible for founding The American Cancer Society in 1913. Once again, if you read my history blog you know a Rockefeller created a monopoly out of our healthcare system for profits. I’m pretty sure they knew what they were doing. They knew it would cause more health issues and more people to have cancer.

So does it make sense they would create an organization to help people fully recover from an illness? I’m certainly not buying into that. I know there really isn’t any proof to show that these organizations are not truly working on a cure. So if it makes you feel good to live with that hope, then go for it. I personally won’t be counting on it.

So, Where Does the Money Go?

You don’t have to agree with me, but some would say the money probably goes toward more brainwashing and working to make us sicker. I know that is a hard pill to swallow! You won’t find me donating any more money to any cancer organizations. I don’t know enough about it, but I’ve heard some of these organizations give money to families that are struggling. If that is in fact true, then that’s great. I’m not saying they don’t do anything good with the funds received, but putting your hope in them finding a cure might not be the best idea. My guess is all these disease organizations are not that different. I do feel bad saying that for all the people who work there and are so committed to doing something good! This brings us to the next issue with a cure…

PROBLEM # 3: Could a One-Size-Fits-All Approach Really Work?

An image of a white puzzle with a piece missing to discuss how there often is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing a health condition.A concept of a cure for many health conditions doesn’t actually make a lot of sense. I’m not an expert on this, but here is what I know. Modern medicine often treats health issues by coming up with a diagnosis based on a set of similar symptoms across patients.

Doctors struggle to find a diagnosis label for some people. Misdiagnoses do occur, and some people don’t even have a diagnosis. There is also seem to be even more new diseases appearing. A research study: Autoimmunity may be rising in the United States.

Problems with One-Size-Fits-All:

1. Root Causes Not the Same Even with The Same Diagnosis

Two people can have similar symptoms but can have a variety of different things wrong with their bodies. Every person can have different nutritional deficiencies, different toxins like mold, chlorine, heavy metals, or chemical imbalances, hormone imbalances, etc. With many autoimmune diseases, there are a variety of different things wrong with each patient. Each person has been exposed to different things, has eaten a different diet, etc. So how can one thing be a solution for a magnitude of different problems?

2. It Takes Time!

Our bodies are our homes. If you go years without cleaning your home and you leave out dirty dishes for weeks, leave garbage lying around you, you got bugs invading your space, you got molds growing, do you think there is going to be some magical thing to fix it all instantly? Probably not.

3. Our Bodies all Respond Differently

Second, every person’s body works differently. It responds differently to different herbs and different medications. When I was getting treatment from my naturopath doctor for my liver, I was muscle tested for several different supplements to see which one my body responded to the best, and the supplements I needed kept changing based on how my body saw improvements. Another example, when a person is diagnosed with depression there isn’t one pill that works the same for everyone. Many people have to try a variety of pills before they find one that works for them, and even then sometimes there isn’t one perfect pill.

Could A One-Size-Fits-All Solution Be Possible?

Now I don’t full-heartedly believe this is true for every illness that there can’t be one thing that works. I just think most of the autoimmune diseases we see today, it’s not very probable. As I talk about cures realize I’m not talking about those weird diseases people get where they have been exposed to a specific animal or situation that creates disease. I’m not talking about being bitten by a tick and developing Lyme Disease because there are actual cures to illnesses like Malaria or Lyme Disease when treated right away. But, my focus is more so on autoimmune diseases, Alzheimer’s, dementia, etc.

In fact, cancer might be more likely to have a one-size-fits-all fix than an autoimmune disorder, but I’m not 100% convinced. According to this site Suppression of Natural Remedies, there have been many natural remedies that have relieved people’s cancer. I’m not saying I believe that these things were solutions that would have worked for anyone. As confusing as it may sound, what I’m trying to convey is we didn’t have a real chance to find out because as the article discusses big organizations went after the people who found solutions that seemed to work.

Is Natural Always Safe? Of Course Not!

I do believe most cancers can, in fact, be removed with natural treatments. I know someone who did recover from progressive breast cancer through natural remedies. But I also know there are treatments out there labeled as “natural” and are either placebo or downright dangerous. I’m not going to tell you that it’s all safe because just like with the medical doctors there are good and bad natural doctors. There are treatments out there that are unsafe.

You have to do some research to find out what really works. Just understand that just because the information isn’t easy to find, that doesn’t mean there are not things out there that work. It means the big organizations are doing a good job at keeping that information hidden.

Problem #4: A “Incurable” Diagnosis

A label to represent how modern medicine approaches illness, which isn't the same as functional medicine.

A diagnosis “label” isn’t always a good thing.

A diagnosis can actually be a problem in and of itself with a chronic health condition. It can be a good thing, but it can also be a bad thing. Here is why it can be a bad thing… once the medical doctors can make a diagnosis a health condition is either “incurable” or we can fix this with all these toxic, drugs or surgery that sometimes doesn’t work out. Because of the years of brainwashing, we believe that is true, and it isn’t always true. Every day people are recovering from medical conditions the modern medical system has called “incurable.” The only reason they are called “incurable” is western medicine doesn’t have the ability or desire to allow people to fully recover from an illness. They would rather make people dependent on drugs.

So I never received an OFFICIAL diagnosis for my health conditions. I mean I was told like IBS, but that was laughable. I’m 100% glad I was never put in a box and labeled by the western medicine system. I think if they came up with a name for all my symptoms I definitely would have been labeled as “incurable.” I might have given up hope at that point, I don’t know. But I luckily gave up on modern medicine before I reached that point.

Alternative medicine typically doesn’t treat a health condition based on a diagnosis. It is part of the equation, but isn’t the whole equation.

How could there possibly be more? Right? Stay with me!

The BIGGEST problem!

Problem #5 – Cure vs. Prevention

An image of natural remedies to discuss how natural medicine focuses on prevention which is more important than a cure. Our focus on how do we cure this and cure that is just completely the wrong way of thinking about our problems. Instead of focusing on cures, we should be looking at how do we prevent these health conditions in the first place! I mean cancer rates are rising, chronic illness is becoming more common and here we are just thinking it just happens at random, it’s just genetics. No! Genetics plays a small role.

In 2020, an estimated 1,806,590 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 606,520 people will die from the disease (National Cancer Institute 2020). By 2040, the number of new cancer cases per year is expected to rise to 29.5 million and the number of cancer-related deaths to 16.4 million (National Cancer Institute 2020).

Prevention is a HUGE Part of Alternative Medicine

The reason alternative/natural medicine doctors can actually help people to recover from many chronic “incurable” health conditions is that they work the problem backward, they look at what caused those health conditions in the first place. And you might be surprised to realize many autoimmune conditions often have a lot of the same root causes.

Instead of worrying about a cure, how about we learn to take care of our bodies in the first place so we don’t have to suffer from a chronic health condition? That’s what The Wellness Resolution blog is all about. The medical system makes it seem like there is no cause for any of these illnesses therefore we need to find cures. But the causes are all around us. For one, even conventional medicine agrees “most disease starts in the gut” and our American diet is packed full of sugars, processed carbs, and other junk that is slowly poisoning many of us. If you haven’t checked out my blogs on food yet, start with my real food blog. It provides a summary of all my blogs surrounding the importance of eating healthy.

This concept of health prevention is so incredibly lost and misunderstood in our society today that it is worth it to devote a whole blog around it. I will be talking in my next blog, how we can take more control over our health by adopting a preventative mindset. FYI: You might not agree with everything I share, but if you can’t agree with the importance of preventative health then there is no hope, you are on the wrong blog.

“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true. – Soren Kierkegaard

BUT WAIT… ONE MORE THING!

Problem #6

A cure won’t stop a person from making all the same mistakes that got them a chronic health condition in the first place. When a person turns to functional medicine, usually the health practitioners teach people about preventative health and give a person an idea of how they got sick in the first place.

What do you think?? I would love your feedback. Please leave a comment.
